PrestaShop 1.7.x. How to install the engine
January 12, 2017
This tutorial provides a description of how to install the PrestaShop 1.7.x engine.
Download a PrestaShop engine archive from the official website: http://www.prestashop.com/en/developers-versions.
Extract the engine files into a folder on your computer. In order to do that, please, use any extracting software to unzip the engine package.
Open the PrestaShop engine folder, it includes prestashop.zip file. Upload this file to your server. Once you have uploaded the archive, extract it there.
Create the database by following our detailed tutorial: How to create a database. And save database name, username and password, you will need them while installing the PrsetaShop engine.
-
Step 1: Welcome page
This page is a quick intro into the installation process. Select the language for the installer, then click the “Next” button. This will also set the default language for your PrestaShop installation – but other languages will also be available for you to enable later.
-
Step 2: PrestaShop’s licenses
PrestaShop is free and distributed under a certain set of open-source licenses. You simply cannot use this software if you disagree with the terms of the licenses, and this step requires you to explicitly acknowledge them. To access the next step, you must check the “I agree to the above terms and conditions” box. Then click “Next”.
-
Steps 3-4: System compatibility & Store information
The third page makes a quick check of all the server parameters on your host. If nothing wrong is found, you are taken directly to the fourth page, “Store information.” This is where you can start customizing your shop: give it a name, indicate its main activity and personal information of the shop owner.
-
Step 5: System configuration
Fill in all the fields with the database connection information: Database server address, Name, Login, Password, Tables prefix.
NOTE: You need to contact your hosting provider if you don’t have the database access details or if you’re having difficulties creating a database.
NOTE: InnoDB is the default one and you should use it, but the more technical among you might want to choose another engine. Generally, there is no need to change the default setting.
NOTE: do not change the default ps_ prefix if you’d like to use template’s sample data (dump.sql file).
Click the “Test your database connection now!” button in order to check that you did use the correct server information.
Click the “Next” button, and the install will start configuring your shop, creating and populating the database tables, etc.
This might take a few minutes: please, be patient and do not touch your browser! Once it is completed, your shop is installed and ready to be configured.
Once the installation is done, you need to open the PrestaShop installation directory and delete/rename the ‘install’ folder to improve your PrestaShop store security.
PrestaShop 1.7.x engine was successfully installed. You can now log into the PrestaShop back-office by going to your newly-renamed “admin” folder, and start modifying your store. Now you are also able to install new PrestaShop themes.
